How to Wax Your Skis (The Easy Way)

How to Wax Your Skis (The Easy Way)

November 02, 2026

If you’ve ever waxed a pair of skis the old way, you know the drill: dig out the iron, wait for it to heat, drip wax across the base, iron it in, wait for it to cool, scrape it all off, brush it out, and sweep up the shavings. Twenty minutes and a mess later, you’re finally done — until the wax wears off after a day and you do it all again.

There’s a faster way. Here’s both methods, so you can decide how you want to spend your time.

The old way: hot waxing

  1. Secure your skis, base up, on a bench or vise.

  2. Clean the base with a base cleaner and let it dry.

  3. Heat your iron and drip wax across the base.

  4. Iron the wax in evenly, keeping the iron moving so you don’t scorch the base.

  5. Let it cool completely (15–30 minutes).

  6. Scrape off the excess wax with a plastic scraper.

  7. Brush out the base and buff. Sweep up the shavings.

It works. It also needs an iron, scraper, brush, vise, a ventilated space, and about 20 minutes per pair — with 75–90% of that wax scraped straight into the trash.

The easy way: rub-on with FastStik

  1. Make sure your base is clean and dry.

  2. Rub the FastStik bar firmly along the base, tip to tail.

  3. Polish it in with the included brush (or a cork).

  4. Go ski. That’s it — about two minutes, no tools.

No iron. No scraper. No cool-down. No mess to clean up. One bar covers 100+ pairs and works from -10°F to 32°F, so you’re not guessing which color goes with today’s snow. You can even re-wax mid-day on the mountain when your skis start feeling slow.

How often should you do it?

Simple rule: flip your skis over. If the base doesn’t look shiny, it’s time. With the old method that’s a chore, so most people skip it. With FastStik it’s two minutes, so you can top up every ski day and actually keep your glide fast all season.

Ready to ditch the iron? Shop FastStik All-Temp and wax your next pair in two minutes.
