A dry, gray base is slow, grabby, and wearing out faster than it should. Waxing fixes it — but if the reason you skip it is the iron, the scraper, and the mess, here’s how to wax your board without any of it.
Why wax your board at all?
Wax protects the base and keeps you gliding. Factory bases are built with high-performance materials like graphite, moly, and Teflon; without wax, those get stripped out, the base dries up, and you lose speed and durability. A waxed board turns easier, runs faster, and lasts longer — especially on flats and cat tracks where a slow base leaves you skating.
The no-iron method, step by step
Set your board on a bench, base up, and make sure it’s clean and dry. Use an eco base cleaner first if it’s dirty.
Rub the FastStik bar firmly the full length of the base, edge to edge.
Polish it in with the brush until the base looks even and shiny.
Strap in and ride. Total time: about two minutes.
No heat, no scraping, nothing to sweep up. It works across the whole season — -10°F to 32°F with All-Temp, and FastStik Warm for spring slush above freezing. Because it fits in your pocket, you can re-wax at the top of the lift when the base starts feeling sticky.
New board? Wax it before day one
Yes, even a brand-new board should be waxed. Factory bases need protection from the first run, or those built-in performance materials start stripping out. Two minutes now saves your base later.
